About the event

Jinyoung A. Jin, Ph.D., Director of Asian Art and Culture, Charles B. Wang Center, Stony Brook University

The influence of Mexican muralist José Clemente Orozco and the Mexican mural movement extends all the way to Korea. In this presentation, Jin, the author of Art, War, and Exile in Modern Korea: Rethinking the Life and Work of Lee Qoede (Amsterdam University Press, 2025), explores parallels between Korean modern artist Lee’s oeuvre and the Mexican mural manifesto and investigates how their shared values reveal a deeper transnational current connecting these two seemingly distant artistic legacies.
