While Downtown Hanover features a variety of retail and dining options, we lack an inviting outdoor gathering place along Main Street. To address this need for welcoming comfortable outdoor areas, the Hanover Sustainability Master Plan proposes the creation of additional public spaces, including a town-managed outdoor event venue along Allen Street, in front of Town Hall, and between Ledyard Bank and 4U Bubble Tea on South Main Street. The Proposal: Located in the heart of Downtown Hanover, Ledyard Park will be open to all members of the public and serve as a space for informal use, community gatherings, and events. A variety of seating options with tables and chairs as well as benches allow for conversation, casual outdoor dining, and watching performances. The park includes a stage for community-oriented performances, space for a food truck, a public art installation, and an inviting setting that draws people together. Generous commitments from Ledyard National Bank, Dartmouth College, the Town of Hanover, The Jack & Dorothy Byrne Foundation, and The Hanover Rotary Club will cover the costs of permitting and providing construction support. Design fees for the project were minimized through the generosity of local architects Sloane Mayor and Chris Kennedy of MA+KE Architects and local landscape architect Paul Simon of Park Architecture. The remaining funds will be raised with the help of the Upper Valley Business Alliance through the sale of custom engraved brick pavers to individuals or organizations that would like to contribute towards bringing this project to life.
